Frizzled Friday evening mutterings...

Hey! Okay, Sally is repeating everything I write. Cool. Now her nose is close to my armpit...wonder if my deoderant is working? "I think so..." she replies, as she giggles.

No seriously...I wrote a quick note to my sister today (did ya know I HAVE a sister?)...and it turned out to be 6 pages front to back, typed! Imagine that for a quick note?

Praise God for my sister! Please pray for her and her family.

Pray for Jameson and his dad, Randy, as they go to Washington D.C. tomorrow morning, with Jameson's school. Pray for safety and a good trip!

You might consider praying Jameson remembers next Sunday is MOTHER'S DAY!!! Yes cyber buddies...May 9, 2004 is Mother's Day. Y'all remember your mothers and, if you don't do much of anything else, get them a card and tell them how much you love & appreciate them! It will mean quite a bit. Take it from me, being a mom, I would know! Or, you could offer to do a special chore or deed for your mom that you know she loves (and you can't stand it when she asks you to do it!).

And, even though Mother's Day is important...loving God with all your heart, mind and soul is more important! Sorry mommas, but tis true!

Ciao! Dogledanji!

The Ballad of Valhalla (aka, results of a bad lunch)

Sung to the tune of the Beverly Hillbillies Theme Song

Opening Theme:

Come and listen to a story about a cat named Val
A mis-understood kitty, a-lone without a pal
Then one day she was awaitin at the door
And up the sidewalk came a human to adore

Gal that is, gold hair, Sarah Jones!

Well the first thing you know ol Val’s in kitty bliss
“She’s evil, not sweet!” The other cats hiss.
Crying, “Get away from us you cat-demon spawn”
So she jumped up in Sarah’s lap and was petted until dawn.

Spoiled, that is. Jealous cats, hairball wars.

Closing Theme:

Well now its time to rid the house of all felines but Val
And she would like to thank Sarah for bringing her the vial
Kate and Allie will soon be gone from this locality
Once they have a tasty snack of poisoned fricassee

Kittykibble that is, eat a dish, burns your fur off.

Sarah’s my pal, me-ow!

We exist for God's pleasure and glory!

A few months ago, I had this startling revelation:
If everything God does is good and perfect (and it is), then
I can trust God COMPLETELY with
my life, my family, my possessions, my church family...in a nutshell,
everything!

So, the following quote perfectly captures why this is true for me, and should be for you, if you are a God Follower.

"Once we agree with God that we exist for His pleasure and His glory, we can accept whatever comes into our lives as part of His sovereign will and purpose. We will not resent, resist, or reject the 'hard things,' but embrace them as friends, sovereignly designed by God to make us like Jesus and to bring glory to Himself."*

My dear, dear friends - do you truly grasp and understand the truth of these statements? We can, with great confidence, obey/trust/follow God and know the outcome will be for our good! You see, God is perfect. Anything He does will be perfect! So, how can anything He brings about in our lives be anything less than His perfection? Even the "hard things."

Praise God!
Praise Him for both the good and hard things in your life.
Praise God because He IS God!

Stop trusting yourself.
Start trusting God.
Why would we trust anyone other than our Perfect, Heavenly Father? Our Creator?
Trusting myself and my own understanding, and not trusting God and obeying Him, is sin.

I praise God for Sarah, Leah, Megan Fox, Alicia, Meagan Fowler, Corina, Jenna, Elizabeth and Samantha coming to small group last night! We missed Vicki, Jessica, Danielle, Sasha and Jamie. Next week we begin our new study "Bitsize Theology" and are on Chapter 3: God. I pray your love for God will deepen as a result of this study. And, perhaps a few more smiles will erupt on your faces whenever anyone mentions the word "theology!"

What did YOU wear today?

When you got up this morning and dressed for school, work, errands, or just putting around the house, did you dress yourself in love, compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience? Well, I didn't. I looked in my closet and pulled out something that matched, would be comfortable and appropriate for a business environment. My biggest dilemma was whether to wear flat shoes or high-heels.

So, I wonder if I focused more on dressing myself each day in love, compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience, if that focus would have an affect on what I choose to wear each day? Probably not. I've never been a slave to fashion. Getting dressed, doing my hair and applying makeup has ALWAYS been a chore to me and not a delight. Some gals really get excited about getting ready each day. To me, it has always been a hassle. In this way, I wish I were like a guy. They get up, get showered and, for the most part, put some goop in their hair and are on their way!

But, if I focus on "putting on Christ" each day...my attitudes, relationships with the saved and unsaved, priorities, and focus throughout each situation I face that day...would be dramatically different. What about you? Would your day look different?

In the following verses, I don't think Paul was talking about physically getting dressed. He was talking about how we, as believers, are to "put on Christ". And, he is talking about our heart attitudes. As we've talked about before, what is in our hearts is reflected in how we act. Our smiles, our reaching out to others, our clothes, our attitudes - are all a reflection of what is in our hearts. And, yes, it is pretty easy to fool others by carefully dressing and acting "Christ-like" while our hearts are hardened and rebellious. So don't miss what the point is here...

Colossians 3:12-17 - So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.

Shifting the thought just a bit here...when you get squeezed, what comes out of your mouth? Think back to today...when someone asked you about your PlanetWisdom bracelet; when you were made fun of or embarassed; when someone bumped into you on accident; when someone ignored you; when you got hurt in PE or sports; when your mom asked you to do a chore or extra chore not on your list; (you get the idea...)? How did you respond? When non-Christians at school talk about God, do you change the subject or walk away?

Colossians 4:5-6 - Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity. Let your speech always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person.

All of this goes back to what is in your heart. If you love God, you will obey Him. If you love God, you will want to please Him. If you love God, you will talk about Him. You won't be able to help yourself. What we love...is what or whom we talk about.

What DID you wear today?

Day 5 - Sarah Comes Home Today!!!

I'm too excited for words.

Hooray! Sarah and 4'nothing Cyber Friend are returning home this very evening. AND, the Alien will be home on Monday evening, late.

So, I had to go to court today. There are some very seedy-looking people at the OC Superior Courthouse. As it turns out, my appointment was post-poned until next Thursday at 9:30 a.m. Grrrr..but I did get chastised by a very jolly Sheriff who kept saying "Good Morning" to me and would not answer my question until I replied "Good Morning" back. He was kinda grandfatherly...and told me to "never forget to be pleasant and polite, no matter the situation." That made me smile. :)

I am thankful we have a just and righteous God. As I waited around, only to find out my hearing had been rescheduled, I looked at the wall of the judges who have served in the past at the Courthouse. As I carefully scrutinized each face and name, I thanked God for setting up our judicial system and allowing the appointment of these judges. I couldn't know any of their personal stand with God, but I am assured they got there by His divine sovereignty.

I have a confident peace knowing:
1-my heavenly Father is in control
2-His will is perfect
3-His plans cannot be thwarted
4-everything He does is good
5-He allows both the good, as well as the bad for my good and to conform me more to the image of His Son, Jesus Christ
6-He sees me through the consequences of my actions
7-He chastises me (or disciplines me) because He loves me
8-He holds me securely in His hand
9-He loves me not because of what I did or didn't do, but because He chooses to
10-He never leaves me alone
11-He will never disappoint me
12-He will never break a promise to me
13-I can trust Him completely
14-He will never let me down
15-God doesn't need me for anything, but chooses to use me for His glory
16-He chose me to be His child
17-everything else in this life is meaningless without God
18-God

Thank you, Father, for this good day.
I love you!

How do you view the future?

"Your view of the future is shown by the life you are living today." - Alistair Begg

So, to steal an example Pastor Begg gave...what do you call those imperfections on your face? Pimples? Zits? Well, in Scotland, they call them "Plocks". And, when you know you are going to be seeing that "someone special" don't you scrub your face and use all kinds of dermatological miracles to get your face spotless and clean? Hmmm..spotless and clean. Does that sound familiar?

Are you living your life in such a way as to be found "spotless and clean" when either the Lord takes you home or returns to rapture His bride?

Jesus' return is imminent. Remember what "imminent" means? It means "about to occur". Literally, Jesus' return is about to occur. It could happen at any moment. Are you living your life now, in such a way, that reflects this Truth? Am I?

I am sad to say that I do not always live my life reflecting this Truth. I want to! I truly long to live my life for Christ now so that when I die, it is one step here on earth with Christ and the next step in Heaven with Christ.

In I Corinthians 15, Paul is talking to the Christians about the Truth of the resurrection. This all falls in line with what Michael and Frank have been teaching on the last few Sundays. If Jesus did not rise from the dead, then we are living our Christian life in vain. If Jesus is not risen, we live without hope.

I Corinthians 15: 31-34
31 I affirm, brethren, by the boasting in you which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.
32 If from human motives I fought with wild beasts at Ephesus, what does it profit me? If the dead are not raised, LET US EAT AND DRINK, FOR TOMORROW WE DIE.
33 Do not be deceived: "Bad company corrupts good morals."
34 Become sober-minded as you ought, and stop sinning; for some have no knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame.

Jesus Christ indeed has risen and lives today. Does your life reflect this Truth? Who are you keeping company with? Who are your friends? Do they see Christ in you? Or, can we say verses 32-34 is true about you in this way:

vs. 32 - I live my life today, uncertain of what the future holds. I want the most "toys", "clothes", "boys/girls", etc. I want everything now, not caring about the cost.
vs. 33 - Most of my friends don't even know I'm a Christian. I live my life, talk and play "just like they do". In fact, I have two sets of friends. I have my "non-church", "school" friends and then my "church" friends. I live my life one way at school and another way at church.
vs. 34 - This living for Christ talk is no big deal to me. I have it pretty much figured out. I can live my life the way I want to. I don't do the "big" sins, so I'm okay. If I told my friends about God, I'd be embarrassed.

If you belong to Christ, but are living your life to please the world, then you are sinning and missing out on being used by God for His glory. It is never too late! Repent, stop sinning and seek to live your life to please God. But, just wanting this won't make it happen.

Seek God in His Word, on your knees in prayer and through accountability with Godly, Christian friends/leaders/mentors. Live the Gospel in your life. Be ALIVE - A-always, L-living, I-in, V-view of E-eternity.

Make today count for the glory of God. Care more about what God thinks about you than what your friends think.

What future are you living for?

Day 3 - Sarah is still missed...but PISMO BEACH is coming!!!!

Okay, so, Tuesday was so lonesome without Sarah (and Cherie to comment on my comments) that I had no energy to update my blog. Which, by the way, thank you to all my supporters...I seem to be winning the "most interesting" blog poll. I hope it doesn't count how many times you vote for yourself. Shhhh...

Brian?! I don't smell Brian! He smelled fine (er, or, lacked smelliness) on Sunday. Happy Belated Birthday to Brian. So, was it April 20, 2004?

-------------------------------------------------
P I S M O--B E A C H--I S--C O M I N G!!!
-------------------------------------------------

I can hardly contain my excitement. This year, we will have 3 sites next to each other and are staying an extra day and night. Wahoo! Capture the Flag at midnight! Way cool! Okay, so I seriously have to get to working out and getting into some sort of shape so I don't huff & puff so loudly when I'm trying to be sneaky on the dunes. The loud huffing, puffing and gasping for air in my lungs is a dead give-a-way to the stealthily (is that a word?) inclined ones. Hopefully, I won't be the slug towing the trailer this year. I received a lot of flack for that last year (like I could really go any faster????).
-------------------------------------------------

God is so good! He is worthy of our Praise! He is worthy of our adoration! He is worthy of our utter devotion and lifetime of service!

So, I heard a quote on the radio this morning: "Pain is the flag of reality in a hardened heart." Is your heart hardened towards God, your parents, Christian peers, those in authority over you? God has placed standards for Godliness, rules for obedience and boundaries in your life to PROTECT you. Why must we always look at what we cannot do instead of focusing on what we CAN DO?

Seek God first. May you all fall truly, madly, deeply in love with Him! Not one thing, event or person will ever compare.

Thank You, Father, for bringing me to You. I love You!

dogledanji!

P.S. The dates for Pismo will be August 23-27, 2004. Did I mention how excited I was???

Day 1 - Sarah has left the State...(Cherie too)

Ho hum...I already miss Sarah and she just left today!!!

Elizabeth DID come home today and even stopped by and gave me a hug. So Good!!! And, as usual, David was looking rather smashing and grinning ear to ear to be next to his sweet Elizabeth again!

So officially, DAVID: You have an open invitation to our house any time. You can come hang out, eat our food, make fun of our kitties, or play Settlers with us! (Hey, did I just mention Settlers???). Anyone wanna play? Withdrawal is SUCH a terrible thing.

Attention Steven Moore, ALWAYS make sure you know who you are chatting with on IM. You just never know when all of a sudden, you'll think it is one person and then Jameson cuts in and starts typing really strange verbiage...I mean REALLY strange verbiage. As an example, what is UP with HIS BLOG??? Oh my goodness...we may have to start a "'This is the Translation of Jameson's Blog' Blog". I'm a little scared (as I should be).

Okay, so NOW I'm really scared. Just chatted with Jameson about his Blog and he said, "I meant to misspell all those words and things and stuff and...Yeah..."

FOR THOSE OF YOU WONDERING
------------------------------------------------
Miss Sarah Jones DID bring a plate of steaming, delicioso, chocolate chip/oatmeal cookies to our house on Saturday, April 17, 2004. Now we ALL know. I confess, however, I wrongly accused Bethany. For that, I humbly apologize and seek forgiveness. And, if the truth be know, me thinks Judy had a part to play in the misdeeds of Friday last. She seems so normal and non-twisted-like to me. Guess you can NEVER know your neighbors tooo well.

Alas, the sun is dipping beyond the horizon (that means "setting" for you with little imaginations).

oh my, oh my, oh my

Thanks to all of you who supported us while we were waiting at the Emergency Room. My near-fatal collapse from the dead rabbit waiting for us on our doorstep when we arrived home proved to be the low point of our evening.

At first, we thought it was Kate or Allie. Seriously, it looked like one of our precious kitties had snuck out of the house, been attacked by a wild dog or coyote and then thrown in its bloodied, unnatural position upon our threshhold.

The boy, for whom we think the calling card was intended, was, as usual, asleep upon the couch, oblivious to the machinations of some deviants.

We wondered who or whom would do such a malicious and evil act of unconscious cruelty? More importantly, why? What message were they trying to convey? But, unless the culprits are feeling particularly oppressed with guilt and remorse (shown by a token of a steaming plate of chocolate chip/oatmeal cookies), I suppose we'll never know.

Sirah and Cyber Friend @ D-Land/Cal Adv.

Well ladies, I am pleased to see you enjoyed yourselves at the one place (guess that would be now two places) most people in other parts of the country and world save up a lifetime for to visit.

I suspect you two were a force to be reckoned with. And, seeing as how Sirah is now 5 FEET 8 INCHES tall, towering over the masses of 4 feet nothing kids (okay SOME of them might've been 4 feet 11 inches, but, the truth does hurt at times), it would stand to reason (oh, I kill myself with such wittiness at times) she would be run in to and not the reverse.

Yes, we have no bananas today. Thar be no lunch served to our starving Residents. Ho hum. Yogurt and food bars for me. Ucky.

I am a tad bit busy today...so this is it for now.

dogledanje! (I just LOVE to write and say that. It tickles my tongue and makes me giggle profusely.)

Well, if y'all haven't checked out the Student Ministries' Blogspace lately, there are a few new additions. I was most impressed with Missy Meeghan's recount of her AP Biology episodes. Writing...Dogs...The Alien is Coming Home!! :)

I embrace poetic license. I embrace the freedom to express one's thoughts (however mundane they may be). I embrace clever, witty and thought-provoking words. Presenting such words in a format lacking correct grammar and composition lessens the impact, forcing the reader to wander away seeking true literary genius in the Classics. Poor grammar and composition is truly like wrapping a new gift in thrice-used gift wrap. Though the content may be meaningful, the presentation lacks luster taking away from the overall impact. Blah...blah....blah....truly an example of why I am employed by CHOC and not receiving royalties for well written novels.

I do not embrace unsupervised dogs who use my front yard as their public toilet.

GREAT NEWS!

Praise God!

The Alien is coming home!

Praise God! Direct quotes: "I will be home a week from this Monday! I have never had an interview go so smooth in my whole life! I am getting my 3-year Visa. No difficult questions. My visa will be posted that very same afternoon and mailed to me in 2-3 days!"

Praise God! Obviously, Sally called me from Germany just a few minutes ago here at my work. She said, "Give Sarah a big hug for me." "Tell her something very sarcastic...say, the Alien's coming home!"

Sally sends her thanks to everyone who held a prayer vigil for her from midnight to the wee hours of the morning (Ms. Debbie Byars!). Prayers were answered and then some! God truly paved the way the entire time for this event.

Our Sally will be coming home!

Ciao!

Oh yes, did I mention: PRAISE GOD!

Spell Check is Critical (too bad grammar check isn't available as well)...

Ahem...when one has angst towards others who do not utilize spell check...one must evaluate one's own writing and make sure they have spelled correctly all their blathering (not to infer this has anything to do with Bethany...as it does not). It, in fact, has to do with a "4-foot nothing" cyber friend I have recently began verbose exchanges.

Exhibit A - how does one spell that word which, by definition, means: To cause to feel self-conscious or ill at ease; disconcert?

em·bar·rass (m-brs)
tr.v. em·bar·rassed, em·bar·rass·ing, em·bar·rass·es
Example: Meeting adults embarrassed the shy child.

Also, one might consider reviewing their exposition before publishing it for, say, composition and grammar rules (or simply, comma errors).

For the spelling error, I refer one to her comments regarding "Operation Boy".

Also, is it not true? When you are referring to a person, you would use "who" or "whom" not "which" or "that" or "what". "Which, that, or what" refers to a thing rather than a personal noun or pronoun. Please, PLEASE, correct me (citing book, chapter, page & paragraph) supporting the contrary.

He.he.he...(she mischieveously giggles to herself...) and you thought you were out of school and on Spring Break!!!

Jim Elliot, martyr, 1928-1956

He is no fool who gives that which he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose. - Jim Elliot

This can be found in the October 28, 1949 entry on page 174 (Chapter 4) of the 1978 hardback edition of the Journal and on page 108 (Chapter 11) of the 1958 hardback edition of Shadow of the Almighty by Elisabeth Elliot. The quote is also used in the prologue of Shadow on page 15.

Jim Elliot, Nate Saint, Roger Youderian, Ed McCully, and Pete Fleming, were missionaries to the Auca Indians in Equador, South America. Elliot was 28 when he, and the other four men were killed by the Auca Indians in January, 1956.

"[He makes] His ministers a flame of fire," Elliot wrote while a student at Wheaton College. "Am I ignitable? God deliver me from the dread asbestos of 'other things.' Saturate me with the oil of the Spirit that I may be aflame. But flame is transient, often short-lived. Canst thou bear this my soul—short life? In me there dwells the spirit of the Great Short-Lived, whose zeal for God's house consumed Him."

Jim Elliot also wrote, “Wherever you are, be all there. Live to the hilt every situation you believe to be the will of God.”

Oh God! Deliver me as well from the "dread asbestos of 'other things.'" All is rubbish in comparison with You.

Today is Sally's Birthday!

Happy Birthday Sally!

I got to talk with Sally for about a half an hour on Saturday! She has a cold, so be praying she'll get healthier soon!

All of you on Spring Break - on Wednesday, April 18, 2004 at midnight, it will be 9:00 a.m., April 19, 2004 in Berlin, Germany. And, at that time & date, Sally will have her interview with the American Consulate. Would you join with Frank and me as we pray for Sally during this time?

We need to pray for Sally to have discernment & wisdom during her interview. We definitely want to pray God's will to be done in all of this - but we WANT Sally to get back here before the end of April!!!

I miss Sally!
Sarah misses Sally!
Frick & Frack miss Sally!
Sally's room misses Sally!!!

So, call me or email me if you want to join the prayer vigil for Sally.

Very, very strange!

Okay, some things are too strange to be true. But, true, nonetheless they are! Check this out and freak out as much as you want to: Scary Chicken

I was very delighted...until we asked it to do the "roger rabbit", "chicken dance" and "the hustle". Then, I was a little afraid. Who is this chicken?

Jesus Christ is ALIVE! He is risen indeed!

Hallelujah! Praise God, for we have been redeemed through the blood of Christ. Today is "Good Friday". However, I would argue that everyday we have been given to live for Christ is a "Good" day. I know, I know. Good Friday is particularly significant as it causes us to pause in remembrance of the critical time in history when Jesus was betrayed, wrongly accused, beaten and scourged by Roman officials/guards, crucified on a cross where He took upon Himself the full outpouring of God's wrath for my sin (and your's), gave up His life and died, was taken down from the cross and prepared for burial and buried in a rich man's tomb. Where, in fact, He lay dead until the third day.

However much I love rabbits - they truly have NOTHING to do with why we celebrate Easter Sunday. They have no significant part in what Easter is all about. They, in fact, are a terrible distraction from the miracle and truth of Easter.

Jesus Christ rose from the dead on the third day! He was resurrected! He is alive today! He is our risen Savior.

I'll probably take a little heat for this, but I do love the Sandi Patty song, "Was it a Morning Like This?" I wonder if the writers of that song loosely base their words upon what Jesus said in Luke 19:40. The song reflects the joy creation possibly felt (if it could have feelings) at the triumphal ressurection of Jesus. The words of the song wondered if the earth rejoiced to "feel" the Creator again. Did the grass sing? Did the earth rejoice to feel the risen Savior?

Do you eagerly anticipate the one day that is singled out in the year to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ? Without the resurrection of Christ, we have no hope!

Jesus' death on the cross satisfied the debt owed for our sin. He paid the price He did not owe for a debt we could not pay. Where is your hope? My hope is in Christ. He died for me, paid the price for my sin and rose again from the dead. Without Christ, life would have no point.

I serve a risen Savior! Whom do you serve?

Thursday, April 08, 2004

Lunch today is "Honey stung chicken, baked squash and green salad." Do NOT ask me how you "honey sting" a chicken - but the result is very tasty. I had two pieces. I avoided the squash as it was of the size and color of something non-squash like, in my opinion. I have NEVER seen squash pieces that big before. They kinda looked like mutant squash. And, the salad - it has garbanzo beans (aka...the stuff humus is made from). I took two bites and recalled why I like humus, but not garbanzo beans unsquished. Icky.

Thanks, Sarah, for the kind words about last night. I enjoyed teaching the lesson. I appreciate you, Sarah!

I am still ruminating over the "intense" conversation on the way home in the car. And, to clarify, neither Frank nor I were mad...we both feel very strongly about what we were discussing.

I am truly thankful for Debbie Byars! She is my best friend. More importantly, she loves God, desires to focus on Him and honor and glorify Him. She sharpens me in my walk with Christ and is always a healthy sounding board for me. She shared a few verses with me that I will leave y'all with to meditate upon.

Romans 8:1 "Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. "

Philippians 1:6 "For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus."

Philippians 3:12-16 "Not that I have already obtained it or have already become perfect, but I press on so that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus. Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Let us therefore, as many as are perfect, have this attitude; and if in anything you have a different attitude, God will reveal that also to you; however, let us keep living by that same standard to which we have attained."

I love each of you dearly!
Delight yourself in the Lord. Praise Him!
Be joyful. In everything give thanks!
Come quickly, Lord Jesus!
Ciao!

Um...ahem...I NOW have an explanation for the seriously bizarre cackling that wakes me up at 1:30 a.m.

Miss Blathering Bethany is still awake and posting her narratives on life!

Amazing, but true.

Regarding SETTLERS:
Me thinks when one wins and does not pay tribute to the other one who let her place a settlement in a strategic location so as to continue her road, etc..etc..etc..., thereby giving her the longest road and all that stinking wheat...eventually resulting in a win...one should give credit where credit is due! He.he.he....

Enuf.

Thanks for correcting "thoroughly" Miss Sarah.

And yes, you did incorrectly spell a word or two in your last posting. That little ABC with the check mark beside it is for spell-checking your posting. Tiny factoid there for ya.

Wondering minds cannot imagine when Michael will update his blog. He is way behind the blogging times.

Uh oh, lunch is over. Gotta get back to the salt mine.

What will we do with Sarah gone to our Nation's Capitol? Who WILL play SETTLERS with us? Bethany is too consumed with mini-putt and raiding our FATTENING snacks. Jameson will be doing the spring break thing with his papa. Sally is still in far-a-way places. I too miss her!

Woe is me. Perhaps we can teach Fiesta & Ranger to play Settlers.

Frick and Frack are now very clean and bubbly.

Ciao!

Good morning cyber-friends!

I heard this cool quote on the way to work today: "Worship isn't about whether you liked it or didn't like it, but it IS about what God thought..." or something to that degree.

When I read the book, When People are Big and God is Small, I was at Winter Camp (2002 - remember "Sisters of the Stump"?). What hit me when I was reading that book was who is my focus when I worship. In this instance, we are talking about praise & worship time (singing). At camp, during worship, folks would be dancing around in their places, raising their hands in worship of God, etc. I never grew up in a congregation where hand-raising during worship was practiced. Actually, it was kinda frowned upon. Hand raisers were (imagine a low whisper here...) "them thar charismatic", "holy rollers", hippie Christians. Can you believe that?

You know, we sing songs to the Lord about "bowing my knee", "lifting my hands", and mumble through the songs without any body movement response at all. Why is that? If we love God, if we have the joy of the Lord, if we have the Holy Spirit indwelling us - why is our worship so mournful?

The Reformation brought about a new way of singing and worship. For centuries before the Great Reformation, the church used to have choirs who sung to the congregation, while the congragation looked on and listened. The Reformation turned that around. The congregation was told, now you are the choir and God is the audience.

We are told to make a joyful noise unto the Lord. We need to care more about God hearing us than the person next to us! We need to sing from a heart full of praise and adoration of the Lord God...the very Creator of us...the Lamb of God...the One who made it possible for us to be a new creation.

We sing and praise an audience of One. Who is your focus when you sing? Are you singing unto the Lord or to hear your own voice? I have to apologize now if I belt out a praise song and I'm off key or a touch too flat...but I love God. He is my focus when I'm singing. Maybe, if you sing better than me...my lack of talent will encourage you to sing a bit louder. But, neverless my noise will be joyful.

Great morning to you!

I WILL NOT let jealousy take over me and make me bitter as I dwell upon the fact-of little incidence to most of you, but of GREAT import to me-that my Frank (theee very one), has today off and was still fast asleep, buzz-cutting logs, as I kissed him "goodbye", declared my unfailing love and bid him a fond day. His sweet reply, "I love you my angel" was almost enough to cut through the jealousy swelling up within me! Okay, so it did dampen the jealousy thing. He deserves some sleeping in, blanket hogging, lazy morning time.

He is JUST impossible to stay mad at or angry with for any satisfactory length of time. Why is that? When his gaze rests upon me, with those amazing, piercing green eyes...or plants a chaste kiss on me when we are passing in the hallway, onto some "need to take care of this" deed...or, if for no apparent reason at all he bear-grabs me and bear-hugs me while telling me he loves me...perhaps he knows the secret to my forgiving side. Hmmm...me thinks he might have me figured out??? Oh no! Time to rethink the game plan and formulate a change on him...just to keep him on his toes and bewildered at my feminine wiles! Nay, he knoweth me too well. I can attempt all the facade at change, but underneath, I am still the me he declares he loves and enjoys being with! That is pretty amazing in, and of, itself.

Too mushy-romantical for y'all? NOT for me! The truth of our marriage and love, with God as the fulcrom, is what REAL romance is made of. I praise God for my marriage and for blessing me with Frank.

People to pray for this week:
Sarah is doing SAT's all week long. Pray she is well rested and her mind is clear and able to focus on what she has committed to learning. I am confident she will do well. Pray she will place her confidence in God's provision in her life and in giving her an incredible mind.

Jameson has a debate on Tuesday. He is the "con" side to the argument that "Immigration to the United States should be limited". He is partnered with Brian Woo. Jameson has the emotional argument, while Brian will focus on the factual.

Jameson's birthday is Saturday, April 10th. He will be fifteen (15) - that is right, I have given up the ten (10) idea. Please pray the 15th year of his life will be a year of Godly change and deepening his love and commitment to the Lord.

Corina's friend, Thomas. Please pray he will come to a saving knowledge of the Lord. I believe he professes to be Catholic. Please pray Corina will be a light to Thomas and that he will see Christ in her. Also pray Corina will be wise in her choices for who she befriends and chooses to become romantically inclined towards.

Pray for Frank and I as we meet with leadership from Garden Grove Baptist Church. We will meet Tuesday night to discuss doing youth events together, as well as, the Pismo Beach Trip.

Pray for me as I study and prepare to teach on Wednesday night on Modesty. Also, that I would make time each day for prayer and Bible study. My day fills up so quickly and I don't get the amount of time I would enjoy for prayer and Bible study. Pray I will be wise and choose God over meaningless time-wasters like T.V., secular book reading, etc.

Pray for Mindy as she is still sick and very physically stressed when she coughs. She begins work today for Bill Byar's company. She gets coughing fits and nearly chokes. It is distressing and embarassing for her. Pray for God's healing.

Pray for each other that our love will increase and we will seek to build each other up in the Lord.
Pray for unity in our church body.
Pray for peace in Israel.
Pray Jesus returns soon!

I love Sundays!

And you know, I USED to dread Sundays! God has changed my heart - that is the ONLY explanation I can think for this attitude towards Sundays!

I suppose my love for Sundays has a lot to do with my love for God, His people and His church. Used to be Sundays were "my" time: sleep-in time; brunch time; drinking a cup of coffee and perusing the paper & coupons; taking a trip to the beach, the mall, the swap-meet...anything that would/could provide me with pleasure for me.

And, this time change thing - I was wrong. I love it too! There is more light in the day (or will be as Spring blossoms into Summer). So, I take back what I said yesterday. Silly me.

I love the time change!!!

Oh yeah - If you haven't read "Bite Size Theology" by Peter Jeffery, WHY NOT? Okay, I know some of you students are waiting cause I keep saying it will be a part of our Small Group Study on Wednesday nights. So, that is fair. Y'all can wait a few more weeks or so. But the rest of you - take a munch or two. Ar...ar...ar.

So, I knew this...but I read this little tid-bit and it seemed to bring together a HUGE truth into a digestable, nugget size, crystal clear TRUTH. And, it is from the book I just mentioned.

Here's the quote: "The ministries of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit are all essential for our salvation. The Father planned it, the Son purchased it, and the Holy Spirit applies it to us. This He does, says Jesus, by giving us new life (John 3:5-8) and by convicting us of sin (John 16:8). Without conviction there can be no repentance and without repentance there can be no salvation." pp. 29-30.

WOW! I love the clarity of that quote. I pray it is meaningful to you as well.

I love You, God. Thank You for loving me beyond the realms of my comprehension. Thank You for purchasing me with the precious blood of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Thank You for changing my heart.

Thank You, God, for Sundays!

Okay dokie my cyber buddies! What an interesting day today has been. More on that another time.

So, check out Bethany's & Sarah's bloggers. Way to go ladies on boarding the blogger bandwagon. Me thinks Bethany's will be quite random. And, Sarah's has sizzling gizzling blogzilling staying power. Seek translation eslewhere. Me know no.

The boys are chowing on Kitchen Fried Chicken.

I truly hate this timechange of the year! I likes the Fall changeling much better. As a matter of fact, I think I will launch a blogger protest of the Spring changeling and...and...um...wellllll....just protest. For those of you who care...I shall begin all my blogs from hence forward with "Losing an hour is a waste of time!" Well, that lacks a bit of imagination. So, until I can get creative juices flowing...I shall bid thee a fond farewell!

Ciao!

Hey! Are you a Duck?

It happened again! On the freeway, in RUSH HOUR traffic. In the number 2 lane, oblivious to the impending danger around her, a momma duck and her 3 ducklings were waddling down the freeway. On the median was a Highway Patrol Officer who may or may not have been looking for an opportunity to break traffic and rescue the ducky family. I do not know the fate of that event. But, I can guess. Sadly, unless someone intervenes, the momma duck or one or all of her ducklings may become particles stuck between the treads of tires and the grooves in the highway. How sad!

So, this event caused me to wonder about how many of those around me (you students who know Christ and those of you who may not) who are heading down a seemingly "safe" road in life not knowing (or caring) that danger, or worse, death is there to greet them? You are choosing to dance close to the boundary lines in dating, sex, impure thoughts, movies, music, your selection of friends, etc. Instead of making your choices based upon God's Word and what He thinks...you are caving in to peer pressure, selfish desires and your own "wise counsel". You, who know so much and we, who know so little.

I distinctly remember being a teenager. I recall how everything in my life revolved around me. All decisions in my life during that time were a direct result of what I thought and felt about me. You know what I'm talking about - will this make people like me? will this improve my popularity? will this make HIM notice me? will this illegal beverage make me more outgoing/acceptable? will this make me prettier/sexier/older looking? will letting this guy kiss me or "paw" me in a way that I know is wrong, make him want to be my exclusive "boyfriend"?

You know...I had adults in my life who tried to guide me and teach me Truth. I recall Youth Leaders talking about consequences and choosing a direction based upon Biblical principles. However, deep down, I didn't care. I wanted to go my own way. I wanted to do my own thing. They didn't live in my world. They didn't face the kind of jr. high/high school day that I faced. In my self-educated opinion, they didn't know anything about being a teenager. Now I know better. Amazingly, I'm here to tell you, those Leaders (my parents included) who tried to guide me and shepherd me actually knew what they were talking about!

God knew from the beginning. He talks about going your own way and the consequences. Here's a few verses that address this very thing:

Prov.12:15 “The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man is he who listens to counsel.”

Prov. 14:12, 15-16 - "There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death. The naive believes everything, but the sensible man considers his steps. A wise man is cautious and turns away from evil, but a fool is arrogant and careless."

Romans 6:20-23 - "For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness.
Therefore what benefit were you then deriving from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the outcome of those things is death. But now having been freed from sin and enslaved to God, you derive your benefit, resulting in sanctification, and the outcome, eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Are you like that duck? Are you headed in a direction heedless to the danger all around you? Are you going your own way, not caring about what your parents or those placed in authority over you are trying to talk to you about or help protect you from the consequences?

Think about it. Stop. Repent. Respond to God calling you, wooing you, desiring an intimate relationship with you. The long-term benefits of responding to God now in your life, obeying Him, far outweigh the temporary satisfaction of that thing you are doing right now.

Don't be a duck.

Once again, Sarah beat Frank and me! Yes, soundly and thoroughly. (Though Frank claims she cheated - though I know that is entirely untrue!).

Ahhh...SETTLERS! The addiction continues. Perhaps we should search out a "SA" group. Wonder if shock therapy would help??!!

We did give Sarah a bit of a shock earlier this evening when we invited her over to see the girls' new "do". Yes, we had Kate & Allie body-shaved into a "lion's cut" for kitties. It is sooooooooo cute. They have little pom-pom tail tips and it looks like they have mink fur-socks on their little paws. I may HAVE to look for rhinestone collars.

Val is a bit pouty at the moment as the black beauties look gorgeous...and Val, well, she be looking about the same.

Of all days, it decides to rain a torrential downpour with thunder & lightening. Don't get me wrong - I LOVED it! However, the gals were a shivering, sans their long black coats. It was so hot this past weekend, we thought we were doing them a favor. Didn't expect this drastic turn of weather.

Frank is bugging me to sign off and get myself to bed! Personally, I think he should heed his own advice as he is sitting in there watching some "war-sounding-type-guy-movie". And, it is late and we be needing quite a few winks.

Ciao!

Do I delight in the Lord? Do I choose to be joyful in all things? ALL things: good as well as bad. Isn't it interesting to note that which I perceive as bad, may in fact, be used by God for my good?

May Psalm 104:34 be reflected in me today - "Let my meditation be pleasing to Him; as for me, I shall be glad in the LORD."

Thank you Lord for this good day. May I live it for Your glory, honor and praise!
