Zombie Apocalypse

The Zombie Apocalypse is NOW!

 

I don't mean to alarm you, but the Center for Disease Control (CDC), has instructions entitled "Social Media: Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse" you can read it here. Actually, it is worth reading as it offers basic emergency preparedness with a witty look at zombies.

 

Also, author Max Brooks has written "The Zombie Survival Guide."  On Random House's website, they post this synopsis of the book:

What, you may be thinking, is wrong with Mary!?

 

Truth be known, I was listening to Pastor Alistair Begg's message yesterday morning on the following passage in Romans.  

 

Romans 8:1-11 (actually, check out all of Romans 5, 6, 7 & 8!)

 

Life in the Spirit

 

 ¹There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. ²For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. ³For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, ⁴in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. ⁵For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. ⁶For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. ⁷For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot. ⁸Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

 

 ⁹You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. ¹⁰But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. ¹¹If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.

 

One of my favorite passages in Scripture is Romans 8:1 - There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.  Let that sink into your heart and spirit for a while.  What does that mean to you?  You really need to back up to Romans 7 to understand this beginning verse in Romans 8.  Check it out!  Why this verse is so precious to me is because I am no longer condemned by sin, Jesus took care of that, and because of His atoning sacrifice, I am declared righteous in Christ by God and saved from His wrath upon my sin.

 

Before we place our trust in Christ alone for salvation, we are spiritually dead to God, because of sin.   And this made me think of zombies.  Imagine dark dramatic music to underlie this statement.

 

Just like zombies who are characterized as flesh eaters, focused only on devouring flesh, obsessed by it, tortured by it, limping, crawling, towards living flesh, so are those who have not placed their trust in Christ alone for salvation.  (I won't even get into the sad truth some of us try to still live like zombies...)

 

Romans 8:6-8 ⁶For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. ⁷For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot. ⁸Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

 

Before Christ = death, hostile to God (zombies)

In Christ = life, peace with God (cured, no longer zombies)

 

Like some of the old zombie movies, there is a cure!  In all of those movies, usually some hero or scientist had to sacrifice their life to provide the cure to all the zombies.  Sometimes, the zombies would kill the hero before they could administer the cure (dumb zombies!).

 

The real truth is we have The Cure: Jesus is the ultimate hero.  Unlike the movies, Jesus was killed (crucified) willingly, in obedience to God the Father, to be the only acceptable sacrifice for sin.  He didn't stay dead.  He conquered sin AND death.  He rose from the grave, was seen by over 500 eye witnesses before ascending into heaven to sit at the right hand of God the Father.

 

Who are the zombies in your life?

 

Won't you share the Good News of The Cure with them?

 

Don't know where to start?  Start with what you know.  How was your life before trusting in Christ?  What happened to draw you to place your trust in Christ?  How has your life been after trusting Christ?

 

Don't have the answers to those questions?

 

Maybe you need The Cure too!

 

How can you place your faith in Christ today?  Romans 10:9-13 makes it clear:  ⁹ ...if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. ¹⁰For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. ¹¹For the Scripture says, "Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame." ¹² For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. ¹³For "everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

 

Don't stay a zombie, trust in Christ today!
