Our God IS Better!

Howdy everyone...
I apologize for leaving you all hanging after we last checked in on Daniel in Babylon.
I felt a little like I was captured and taken away to my own personal Babylon (work).  Thanks for all of your patience with me and understanding when I wasn't at Youth Group the past 2-3 weeks.  Work was in crunch time and I HAD to complete an application (250+ pages) and have it overnighted to San Francisco by Friday, March 6, 2009.  And...with a few hours to spare...we made it.  It was the most excrutiatingly painful experience I have gone through in quite some time!  If you recall, I was out from work for almost the whole month of January (due to my mom's illness and eventual death) and a lot of stuff I was supposed to be doing wasn't getting done by anyone.  But, God was faithful and merciful to me and allowed me to get through all of the angst of my work related stress.
So, I'm BACK!
I heard good things about those of you who went to Winter Camp...and, even now, am working on a slideshow to have ready for y'all on Wednesday night!  I'll be there and I HOPE you will be too!
Cause, Wednesday night...we'll have some special guests and a lot more information on the upcoming Guatemala trip!  Today, Frank and I were off and did all kinds of "busy" things that haven't been taken care of for some time.  One of the cool things we did was get the applications for passports.  I get to renew mine! Woo hoo!
Anyway...on to Daniel.  Daniel was faithful to the Lord God of the universe...and He was faithful to Daniel.  So much so that the King of Babylon was impressed with Daniel and his friends.
Is how you are living your life for the Lord making others take a second look at you?
Read on!
See y'all on Wednesday.

Our God is Better

"The king talked with them, and he found none equal to Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah; so they entered the king's service. In every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king questioned them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters in his whole kingdom." (Daniel 1:19-20)

Our God reigns. Maybe you've sung a song with those words in it, Usually, I think of that phrase to mean that the one true God of heaven is in control of the universe. To modern unbelievers, it means that we believe in God while others don't.

But the ancient world was full of the worship of all kinds of gods. To say, "Our God reigns" meant, "Our God is better than your god." Occasionally, God would graciously prove to unbelieving people that His power was real, while the power of their false gods and false spirituality was either severely limited or completely non-existant.

God used Daniel and his boys to make that point at this moment in history. They were tapped into real power, the power of the God of creation. It's not surprising that they were ten times better than all the other spiritual leaders serving false gods. God used their faithfulness to prove His power.

Think: Does God's power show up in your life in a way that can be seen by others? What is the evidence that God is alive and at work in you?

Pray: Ask God to make His reality in your life through faith in Jesus evident to those who know you well.

Do: Read in Daniel 3 how Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego risked their lives to stand up for God -- and how God used that choice to make His power obvious to everyone.
