My life portrait: Christ

Col 3:1-4 “…keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

“Christ, who is our life...” Colossians 3:4Paul’s marvelously rich expression indicates, Christ is the source of our life. “You hath He quickened who were dead in trespasses and sins.” That same voice which brought Lazarus out of the tomb raised us to newness of life. He is now the substance of our spiritual life. It is by His life that we live; He is in us, the hope of glory, the spring of our actions, the central thought, which moves every other thought. Christ is the sustenance of our life. “This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.” Oh weary pilgrims in this wilderness of sin, you never get a morsel to satisfy the hunger of your spirits, except you find it in Him! Christ is the solace of our life. All our true joys come from Him; and in times of trouble, His presence is our consolation. There is nothing worth living for but Him; and His lovingkindness is better than life! Christ is the object of our life. As flies the arrow to its goal, so flies the Christian towards the perfecting of his fellowship with Christ Jesus. As the soldier fights for his captain, and is crowned in his captain’s victory, so the believer contends for Christ, and gets his triumph out of the triumphs of his Master. “For him to live is Christ.” Christ is the exemplar of our life. Where there is the same life within, there will, there must be, to a great extent, the same developments without; and if we live in near fellowship with the Lord Jesus we shall grow like Him.

Col 3:12-25 So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you.
Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity.
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful.
Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.

Is it “your life” or “your life in Christ?” Focus on the Lord Jesus Christ. Pray to be led by the Spirit. Obey God. Love one another. Wow. “My” life looks like a willful child throwing temper-tantrums, selfishly wanting my own way. But, “my life in Christ” shows Christ…and me? I’m supposed to be the mirror reflecting Christ. I’m the canvas upon whom God, through the Holy Spirit, is painting the image of Christ.

Wow.
