U.S. Supreme Court Strikes Down 'Child Online Protection Act'

Apparently, the US Supreme Court felt it was a violation of 1st Amendment Rights to require adult internet users to prove they were of legal age to access a pornographic website. I totally disagree! This link takes you to the article discussing this recent decision.

As parents, we need to be vigilant and pro-active in monitoring our children’s internet usage. This is NOT an issue of trust, it is an issue of protecting your child. At the very least, Internet Explorer allows you to put a “content advisory” on the websites visited from your computer. However, many seemingly innocent sites can get through. Symantec’s Norton Internet software bundle is a really good product that gives you far greater control on website content, email content, instant messaging content and files sent to your computer – not to mention the great anti-virus software included in the bundle. Okay, well, I GUESS I feel pretty strongly about this issue! And, so should you!

Get educated on this area and be pro-active.

My heart is sickened and grieved over the Supreme Court's decision. I hate the damaging effects and sin that often results from pornography addiction! I think what I hate worse is how we as Christian parents, leaders and teachers avoid talking about this "secret sin" and leave so many Christians (adults and teenagers alike) struggling alone, in secret, with shame, guilt and incorrect thinking.

Currently, Frank and I are reading two really good books on purity from God's perspective. For guys, Who Moved the Goalpost? by Bob Gresh and for gals, And the Bride Wore White: 7 Secrets to Purity by Dannah Gresh. Both of these books are tied in with separate retreats we are planning for "guys only" and then "girls only" in the Fall. You can pick these books up at most local Christian Bookstores. If you are a parent and not sure what to think, how to talk to your child or even struggling with past choices, I'd highly recommend you read these books and find refreshment, correct teaching and freedom through God's grace to you as His child.

Purity is an issue for young and old alike. And, no matter where you are or what you've done or been through, purity is available and possible for each of us.
