The Importance of the Resurrection

So we switch from King Jesus to Savior.

 

Why, indeed, is the resurrection of Jesus so important to our faith?

 

Without it, we have NO hope.

 

Without it, death robbing us of a loved one, who's trust was in Christ, is utter agony.

 

Without it, our God is no greater nor different than the other gods people worship.

 

Without it, Christianity is a hoax.

 

Without it, we, who profess Jesus Christ, have no point in what we do.  There would be no "good" in the news of Jesus taking our place on the cross and suffering the wrath of God on my sin, your sin.

 

ANYone can die.  It happens every day.  In fact, God says in Hebrews, "And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment, (Hebrews 9:27)."

 

Only One conquered death and, after three days, rose again from the grave.  You may argue that the Bible shares the stories of others who were resurrected from the dead.  Think about it, Who raised them?  Not one person who was brought back to life, did this deed in their own ability or strength. 

 

It is fitting, as we approach Easter, that we know & understand the crucial importance of Jesus' resurrection.

(1 Corinthians 15:3-4) Why do we believe in the resurrection of Jesus from the dead? And what difference does it make, really? This Easter week, those are the questions Paul will answer for us as we listen in on parts of 1 Corinthians 15. What we call the gospel is built on 3 essential legs, Paul writes in today's verses. The most important parts of the Good News are these: Jesus died for our sins; He was buried; He was raised the third day — all as had been predicted in God's Word long before hand. If you're a Christian, your relationship with God started with saying "yes" to the truthfulness of all three. But wouldn't it be easier to convince people to join us if we could just leave that last one out? Sure, Jesus died for our sins. But came back to life? That's where it gets to be a hard sell. Why make a big deal about that one? Stay tuned. Think: Before we dive into Paul's answers this week, why do you think the resurrection of Jesus from the dead is an essential part of what we believe as Christians?
