Bible Verses EVERYwhere?

Yeah! Today is Wednesday.  We have Youth Group tonight!  Wahoo!  Yeah!  I'm so excited to see each and every one of you!!!  Tonight is going to be really GREAT...so you should definitely plan to come.

 

Before we get into today's Devotional from Planet Wisdom, I have to tell you about the Rosseta Stone software we started using yesterday!  If you EVER need to learn a new language, I highly recommend you purchase this software.  They use the "immersion" technique.  From the moment you start the program, they are speaking to you in the language you want to learn (for us right now it is Latin American Spanish).

 

So far...here is what I've learned:

 

Hola!

Yo bebo cafe. (I drink coffee)

Yo hablo espanol despacio. (I speak speanish slowly)

Yo menajo un carro. (I drive a car)

Yo tengo una pasera (un bibliographico). (I have a pen or formal pen)

La manzana es verde o roja. (The apple is green or red)

El caballo es blanco. (The horse is white)

Las flores son penquenos. (The flowers are little).

El hombre cocina. (The man cooks)

La mujer nada. (The woman swims)

La nina lee. (The girl reads)

El pez nada. (The fish swims - but I thought a pez was a candy!!!)

I'm sure I'm missing all the accents and inyas I am supposed to put over certain letters.  But, this is amazing to me!

 

I'm supposed to put yellow sticky notes on all the new vocabulary words I'm learning.  Sheesh!  I wonder if Frank will let me sticky note him?  The theory is, if I have all these sticky notes posted all over my house, I will associate their spanish meanings with the item and learn them more easily.

 

Which appears to be a technique the Rosseta Stone people stole from God.  He wants us to do the same thing with His Word.  There are numerous benefits to knowing God's Word..namely, we are told:

How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Your word. With all my heart I have sought You; Do not let me wander from Your commandments. Your word I have treasured in my heart, That I may not sin against You. Blessed are You, O LORD; Teach me Your statutes. With my lips I have told of All the ordinances of Your mouth. I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies, As much as in all riches. I will meditate on Your precepts And regard Your ways. I shall delight in Your statutes; I shall not forget Your word. (Psalms 119:9-16)

Arms Foreheads Doorways Posted: 22 Mar 2009 01:38 PM PDT "Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates." (Deuteronomy 6:8-9) Over the years, many religious Jews have taken these two verses literally. They tie tefillin — small leather boxes containing Scripture — around their arms and to their foreheads. And they attach a mezuzah, a piece of parchment with Scripture on it stored in a special little case — to the doorframes of their houses. If that helps anyone to remember and live by God's commands more intentionally, it's worth the effort. The idea seems to be to do whatever it takes to force God's words into our daily lives to the point where we can't easily ignore them. It's too common for us as Christians to compartmentalize Scripture. It is welcome in Sunday School, church, and youth group. It is out of place when we're watching TV or hanging with certain friends or doing science or politics. God wanted His people to make His most important commands as unavoidable as their own arms and doorways and foreheads. Think: How could you make God's Word more obvious in your life? How can you force His commands into the areas of life where they don't seem to fit? How does this idea gel with loving God with our whole lives? Pray: Ask God to help you to be bold in reminding yourself of His Word in every corner of your life.
