Heaven...For Real

I'm posting this picture today because I love it!  My mom is looking at my dad and appears so happy!  Even my sister and I are all giggles.  It makes me smile every time I look at it.  And, it kinda looks etheral.

How fitting today's Devo talks about Heaven.  A real place.  A real destination.  The ultimate place to spend eternity.

Today is my mom's funeral.  I am happy/sad all at the same time.  And, it will be scattered showers today.  Thanks God, I need it to rain today.  That may sound morbid to you...gloomy and cold...but I think I would've had a harder time burying my mom on a bright & sunny (typical) So. California day.

Just after my mom passed...I was talking with someone and said I wish I could be a fly on the wall to see my mom's first impressions of her initial entry into heaven.  Well, as it turns out, Jesus HAD already been there and was talking to Nicodemus about it.

The passage in Numbers is a great read.  If you don't know the story of Moses, the chilldren of Israel and the snakes...it is one you should check out today.  In fact, a hymn we used to sing comes from this story..."Look and Live."

Look and Live
Words and Music by William A. Ogden - 1887
Numbers 21:18
"And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent,
and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every
one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live."

I've a message from the Lord, hallelujah!
The message unto you I'll give,
'Tis recorded in His word, hallelujah!
It is only that you "look and live."

Refrain
Look and live, my brother, live!
Look to Jesus now, and live;
'Tis recorded in His word, hallelujah!
It is only that you "look and live."

I've a message full of love, hallelujah!
A message, O my friend, for you,
'Tis a message from above, hallelujah!
Jesus said it, and I know 'tis true.

Life is offered unto you, hallelujah!
Eternal life thy soul shall have,
If you'll only look to Him, hallelujah!
Look to Jesus who alone can save.

I will tell you how I came, hallelujah!
To Jesus when He made me whole:
'Twas believing on His name, hallelujah!
I trusted and He saved my soul.

The Man from Heaven

Posted: 05 Feb 2009 04:06 PM CST

"I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things? No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven—the Son of Man. Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life." (John 3:12-15)

What's the point of Jesus' one-sided conversation with the bewildered Nicodemus? It's all about who gets into heaven, who gets to be with God. The path is spiritual rebirth, but the destination is a very real place. Jesus had been there and was going back.

Nicodemus would have heard (and probably taught) often of the story from Numbers 21:4-9. God sent poisonous snakes among the people as a punishment for their sin of speaking against Him. To save them, God had Moses lift up a bronze snake on a pole. Those who looked at it lived.

What a beautiful prediction hides in Jesus words. He -- the man from heaven, the Son of Man -- would be lifted up on the cross. Those who look to Him in faith will be given the gift of heaven, eternal life with God.

Think: How great would it be to meet someone who had actually been to heaven and could tell us all about it? Do you think of Jesus in that way?

Pray: Thank God for the clear words of Jesus that everyone who believes in Him will live forever. If you're a Christian, thank God for your home in heaven with Him.

Do: If you haven't yet, read Numbers 21:4-9.
