Rabbit Religion...Hare today, gone tomorrow!

If you missed Youth Group last night...we MISSED you!  Frank did a great job of explaining it is not the degree of your faith that saves you, or heals you, or causes this or that to happen...it is the object of your faith that is the issue.  Faith in anything, other than Jesus Christ, is pointless.

 

As an example....

 

I can live my entire life REALLY believing that worshipping and putting my trust in rabbits will save me from the wrath of God and I will get to spend eternity with Him.  I could even form a Church of the Rabbit and have many convert to the rabbit doctrine.  Converts could all wear necklaces with gold rabbits dangling from them.  Converts could have rabbit stickers plastered all over bumpers, books and windows showing solidarity.  I could even make Watership Down the source of doctrine and teachings.  I could go on talk shows, news segments and telethons to argue how great the faith of the Rabbit Religion is compared, say, to the faith of Christians. 

 

No matter how really cute, wonderful, fuzzy and cuddly rabbits are (and they REALLY are!), my faith in rabbits for salvation is dead wrong.  Great faith is meaningless if the object of that faith is anyone or anything in place of the Lord Jesus Christ.

 

Along similar lines, today's PW Devotional talks about focusing on our experiences rather than focusing on Jesus Christ.  The point of our lives, if we have placed our trust in Jesus Christ for salvation, IS Jesus.

Jesus Above All: Better Than Angels Posted: 06 Jan 2010 12:50 PM PST "So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs." (Hebrews 1:4) It is not surprising that some people want to worship angels or see them or touch them. Apparently, angels are magnificent creatures. When they appear to humans in the Bible, they often start by saying, "Don't be afraid." Or sometimes, "Don't worship me." On the night Jesus was born, the shepherds' sky-rending experience of the angels must have been far more impressive than the experience of looking at a newborn baby in a barn. And that's the point of this chapter: Experience is not what matters. The Who is more important than the What in any given moment. Jesus is the Son of God. That's why He is superior to the angels. He created them, and He rules over them. They worship and serve Him. Basing the value of whom we worship based on the impressiveness of that experience in the now is always a deception. Paul warns us to beware of angel-worshippers or those who care more about experience than truth: "Do not let anyone who delights in . . . the worship of angels disqualify you for the prize. Such a person goes into great detail about what he has seen, and his unspiritual mind puffs him up with idle notions." (Colossians 2:18) Think: What's the danger of caring more about having big experiences in worship than the God you are worshipping? Pray: Praise Jesus that He far superior to even the angels.
